Our Story | 1860 Schulhaus Venue

A Historic Space with a Story to Tell

The 1860 Schulhaus began as a one-room schoolhouse—built to bring people together, rooted in community, and filled with generations of history.

Over the years, the building has taken on many lives. From the first public school building, to the original community club, the local VFW, a pizza restaurant, real estate office, and even a hair salon—the heart of the space never changed. It was always waiting to become something meaningful again.

It was thoughtfully restored by a previous couple and transformed into a charming wine garden—full of character, warmth, and a sense of gathering that made people feel instantly at ease.

That’s the version of the Schulhaus I fell in love with.

Where It Became Ours

Hey there, Julia here!

Brian and I were married here in 2015.

At the time, it was still operating as that cozy wine garden, and from the moment we stepped onto the property, we knew it was something special. It didn’t feel like a traditional venue—it felt personal, relaxed, and real.

Our wedding day was exactly what we needed it to be.
Simple. Meaningful. Surrounded by the people who mattered most.

And that experience stayed with us.

This space is also deeply connected to Brian’s family. His grandmother once taught school here, and his dad attended school within these very walls. Long before it became part of our story, it was already part of his.

The Opportunity to Bring It Back

When the property came up for sale again, I didn’t hesitate.

I knew what this place could be—not just because of its history, but because of what we had experienced here ourselves.

We didn’t set out to create something complicated or overdone.
We wanted to bring the Schulhaus back to life in a way that felt true to what it had always been:

A place where people gather.
A place where memories are made.
A place that feels good to be in.

Built Around Real Experience

1860 Schulhaus was shaped not just by vision—but by experience.

We know what it feels like to plan a wedding.
We know how quickly it can become overwhelming.
And we know how important it is for your day to feel like yours.

That’s why everything here is designed to feel simple, intentional, and manageable—without sacrificing beauty or experience.

We specialize in micro weddings, elopements, and smaller gatherings because we’ve seen how powerful those celebrations can be. When you strip away the pressure and the noise, what’s left is something more meaningful

The Heart Behind the Details

While I lead the day-to-day experience at 1860 Schulhaus, Brian plays a different—but equally important—role behind the scenes.

He’s the one who brings the vision to life.

From building, fixing, improving, and making ideas reality—he’s the reason so many of the details you see throughout the property exist in the first place. If something needs to be done, he’s the one making it happen.

Together, we’ve created a space that continues to evolve with intention and care. That’s the space I can’t wait to welcome you into.

More Than a Venue

This isn’t just a venue to us.

It’s where we got married.
It’s part of Brian’s family history.
And it’s something we’ve chosen to carry forward with purpose.

Every couple who walks through the doors becomes part of that ongoing story.
